Motor Racing Australia Aligns With Motorsport Australia for 2026

Successful NSW-based motor racing series, Motor Racing Australia (MRA) has announced its race meetings will be sanctioned by Motorsport Australia for the 2026 season.

Since 2009, the MRA series has provided a home for many grass-roots categories including Super TT, Series X3 NSW, Pulsar Racing Series, Alfa Romeo Racing Series, Clubman Series and Mazda MX5 Cup, while its marquee endurance races – the Wakefield and Sydney 300s – have evolved into some of the most popular and prestigious endurance races in Australia.

The Motorsport Australia shift signals MRA’s departure from the Australian Auto-Sport Alliance (AASA), which has sanctioned MRA events since their inception.

Motor Racing Australia Director Terry Denovan said the decision to switch to Motorsport Australia sanctioning was about simplifying processes for competitors, officials and categories.

“The transition to Motorsport Australia places competitors, officials, and partners within a single national framework for licensing, permits, and event administration,” Denovan said.

“We acknowledge and appreciate the support provided by the Australian Auto Sport Alliance over many seasons, but with our calendar evolving, this is a good time to move into the next phase of our growth.”

The most exciting outcome for MRA competitors is that the Motorsport Australia alignment allows them to gain the necessary licence endorsements to race at the Holy Grail of Australian motorsport, Mount Panorama Bathurst; indeed, one of MRA’s core categories, Super TT, has been confirmed on the support card for the 2026 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour.

“It’s been a long-time dream of mine to take Super TT to Bathurst, and in 2026 that dream will be realised,” Denovan said.

Other subtle changes that can be expected by competitors and officials include event supplementary regulations referencing the Motorsport Australia National Competition Rules and other relevant regulations, and the recognition of licensing and accreditation under Motorsport Australia.

“Twelve months from now, we want people to say the racing felt seamless and the customer service stepped up again,” Denovan said.

“We feel the Motorsport Australia alignment will benefit everyone, but especially our competitors who just want a hassle-free experience when they arrive at the track.”

The 2026 MRA season kicks off at Sydney Motorsport Park at the start of February, with further details about the makeup of categories at each round to be announced in the coming weeks.
