Oztrack SuperTT – Round 1 – Race Report

Round 1, Sydney Motorsport Park

2026 OzTrack SuperTT Championship, Round 1 kicked off at Sydney Motorsport Park under extreme heat and humidity, setting the tone for a physically demanding opening round for drivers and teams alike. With OzTrack continuing as Category Sponsor, the field was strong across all SuperTT classes and ExtremeTT, and simply managing tyres, cooling, and driver condition became as important as outright pace.

Qualifying immediately showed the depth of competition, with tight margins across the field despite challenging conditions. Several drivers reported grip falloff and fatigue early, and the session became more about positioning than outright lap time. The class battles were already forming, particularly in Over 2L Treaded and Under 2L Treaded, where multiple cars were separated by only small gaps heading into racing.

Race 1 saw clean but committed running, with drivers clearly conscious of the heat load. In Over 2L Slicks, sponsored by MJS Electrical, David Calabria took maximum points with a controlled drive, edging Todd Herring and Jett Herring, who both stayed in the hunt despite rising cockpit temperatures. The class rewarded consistency over aggression, a theme that would continue all weekend.

The Over 2L Treaded class, backed by G-LOC Brake Pads, delivered one of the strongest point-scoring performances of the round. Mark-Joseph Seguna emerged as the early championship leader with a maximum haul, ahead of Corey Fraser and Matthew Giuntini. The class depth was evident, with ten drivers scoring points and several others pushing through the heat to finish strongly.

In the smaller-capacity classes, Under 2L Slicks saw Ben Cathcart take the early advantage, while Under 2L Treaded, sponsored by Lendrive Finance, produced one of the most competitive outright contributors. Aaron Giuntini’s performance placed him equal-top on outright points, underlining how influential the U2T field will be across the season.

ExtremeTT, supported by Fastrack Experiences, added another layer to the outright fight. Harrison Cooper and David Miller both delivered decisive performances, with Cooper leaving Round 1 equal-leader on outright points. Across all classes, driver welfare became a genuine factor, with heat and humidity testing everyone in the paddock and reinforcing the endurance-style challenge that SuperTT presents.
